The waterproof test is applicable to electrical and electronic products that may be exposed to water during transportation, storage or use. This water comes from heavy rainstorms, wind-driven rain, sprinkler systems, wheel splash, washouts or strong ocean waves. The relevant specifications should specify whether electrical and electronic products must function normally during the test or whether they must withstand flushing conditions and remain intact.
There are waterproof testing requirements for portable, outdoor and automotive electronics. Internationally, IEC, MIL, ETSI and SAE have formulated corresponding testing requirements.
waterproof level
IEC/EN60529 waterproofing is divided into 9 levels (level 0 ~ level
8), waterproof level (e.g. IPX4-waterproof level 4):
Level 0: Completely waterproof and unprotected
Level 1: Water dripping from vertical directions should have no
harmful effects
Level 2: When each vertical surface of the enclosure is tilted
within 15°, vertical dripping water should have no harmful effects
Level 3: Water spraying within 60° of each vertical surface has no
harmful effects
Level 4: Splashing water from all directions on the enclosure has
no harmful effects
Level 5: Spraying water from all directions on the enclosure has no
harmful effects
Level 6: Strong spraying of water from all directions on the
enclosure has no harmful effects
Level 7: After being immersed in water at a specified pressure for
a specified period of time, the amount of water entering the
housing will not reach a harmful level.
Level 8: According to the conditions agreed between the
manufacturer and the user (which should be more stringent than
Level 7), the amount of water entering the shell after continuous
diving will not reach a harmful level.
Test equipment and instruments
The dust-proof test is used to test the ability of electrical and
electronic products, automobile and motorcycle parts, and seals to
prevent sand and dust from entering the seals and shells in a sandy
and dusty environment. It is also a test method to determine the
impact of sand and dust suspended in the air on the product. To
test the performance of electronic and electrical products,
automobile and motorcycle parts, and seals in use, storage, and
transportation in sandy and dusty environments.
Dustproof level
IEC/EN60529 dustproof is divided into 7 levels (level 0 ~ level 6),
dustproof level (e.g. IP5X-dustproof level 5)
Level 0: No dust protection at all
Level 1: Can protect against foreign objects with a diameter
greater than 50mm falling into the equipment
Level 2: Can protect against foreign objects with a diameter
greater than 12.5mm falling into the equipment
Level 3: Can protect against foreign objects with a diameter
greater than 2.5mm falling into the equipment
Level 4: Can protect against foreign objects with a diameter
greater than 1.00mm falling into the equipment
Level 5: It cannot completely prevent dust from entering, but the
amount of dust that enters must not affect the normal operation of
the equipment and must not affect safety
Level 6: Completely dustproof
